The McKendrees
Ron Barnett
When the McKendrees began their search for a bassist, they didnt have to look far to find, and adopt an extended family member. As members of the Jackson Purchase Friends of Bluegrass, the McKendrees and Ron had on many occasions got together to jam, and sometimes perform on stage. Ron had been a member of Copper Creek recording artist Josh Williams and High Gear. In 1998, Special Consensus hired Josh as lead vocalist and mandolin player, and High Gear disbanded. Ron was looking to stay involved with a strong and solid vocal and instrumental bluegrass band, and there is no better than the McKendrees. Ron officially became an extended McKendree in August 2001. Ron began playing music in the late seventies, and soon along with a few friends formed the band, Blood River Bluegrass Boys. Ron later went on to play with regional bands, The Kentucky Wonders, and J.B. Taylor and Kentucky Tradition, before being hired by High Gear in 1993. His rock solid upright bass playing has added a rich sound to the band. Ron is from Murray, Kentucky, and has one daughter, Lindsey, who is an aspiring fiddle player. Every fathers dream!
