It’s often said that there’s no harmony like family harmony. The McKendrees certainly continue to prove that rule. However, this young ensemble proves a great deal more than that. For starters, they have two very talented and promising lead singers (most bands are lucky to have one!), solid and appropriate instrumental work and, most importantly, they have a true feeling for what makes bluegrass music touch people.

I guess we should first thank Ricky, the group’s guitarist and baritone harmony singer (he sings some lead too, but he usually lets the spotlight shine on the younger band members). He, along with his wife Becky, raised his children with a love for music and wisely threw in plenty of family talent to go with it. The McKendrees had a music-filled household and got their start performing at the Bethel Baptist Church in their native Marshall County, in the Kentucky Lake region of western Kentucky.
